Live Local, Plant Local

FOWSP has created several resources to make it easy to access and use information about the various indigenous species found in the Warrandyte area.

  • Flora of Warrandyte.  This is a digitisation of the book Flora of Warrandyte.  You can view lists of the plants by various categories such as botanical name, common name or area of The Park.  Plants can then be selected from the results to show the information about the plant;
  • Planting Guide.  This is based on the digitised Flora of Warrandyte and another FOWSP publication, the Gardener’s Guide to Indigenous Planting in Warrandyte and Surrounding Areas.  The tool allows you to select plants based on various criteria such as flower colour, plant type and position.  It also allows you to create a Plant List, which you can copy and keep for your own reference or even email to the nursery as an order.
  • Gardener’s Guide to Indigenous Planting in Warrandyte and Surrounding Areas.  This is a booklet we compiled that has a selection of the most commonly used plants and includes some tips.
Native Splendour

We have also created two areas at the nursery that show what some of the plants look like when they are more mature than our plants in tubes or pots.  They are Frogland, a plant garden to walk through with over 100 plants, and the Pollinator Garden, which was constructed to attract native pollinators such as bees.

Lastly, Manningham Council’s booklet Native Splendour and Nillumbik Shire Council’s booklet Live Local, Plant Local are two other useful resources with information about our local indigenous plants.  They also give useful tips for designing, planting and maintaining an indigenous garden. If you prefer paper to PDFs, Native Splendour is usually available at the Nursery or from our information trailer at the Warrandyte Riverside Market.
